Good Sunday morning! A vast majority of the region is dry this morning with an exception being a few remnant showers lingering across central KS as of 8:50am CDT. I expect this area of convection to diminish over the next couple of hours.
Our next threat comes with upper-level energy lifting out of the Rockies this afternoon into west/central NE and western KS. This region today will have the best potential to see scattered storm development with a few storms becoming severe as instability, wind shear, and low-level moisture will be maximized.
Simulated radar through 7am CDT Monday morning: Widely scattered showers and storms will initiate between 3-5pm CDT across far western NE before increasing and coverage and pushing east across western NE from 5-9pm CDT with additional storms pushing into western KS after 7pm CDT this evening. It is during these times that the severe weather threat will be persist and even a couple hours later. After these times, the showers and storms will begin losing steam as they head into a more stable air mass in eastern NE and west-central KS. Shower and storm coverage is expected to persist into the nighttime hours across portions of central/western KS with a few showers/storms in eastern NE/western IA as well.
Simulated radar from 7am CDT Monday to 10pm CDT Monday: Remnants of this evenings storms will persist into the morning hours Monday across portions of KS with a few isolated showers/storms still possible in eastern NE/western IA. A few scattered pop-up storms are possible in southwest/eastern KS Monday afternoon but these areas should diminish during the evening hours.
Total rainfall through 7am CDT Monday:
Here’s a look at 7-day rains for the Central Plains: A majority of the rains will be confined to central/western KS/NE where many spots will receive 1-2″ of rain this week with locally higher amounts.

A few 100ºF readings are possible in far southwest KS today with 90s expected in western NE and the rest of KS. Overnight lows will remain in the 70s across KS during much of the period.
Here’s a look at dew points over the next four days: Dew points will remain in the 60s today across the region before a drop in humidity occurs in western NE Monday. A few 70ºF dew points are possible right along the cold front in eastern NE/western IA tomorrow.
