Good Friday afternoon!
A check on radar shows that we are dry across the state with the nearest rain in the Central parts of MN:
We are expecting this to change later this evening as we are watching for the potential of some storms to develop in NW SD. Noted in the simulated radar loop below, these showers and storms will continue to work their way gradually E as the overnight and morning hours go on. Overall, we think the main area in play is the Northern half of the state. We are watching for the possibility of some stronger/severe storms in this timeframe as well. The main focus will be on strong wind gusts and the potential for large hail in these cells. This simulated radar loop is from 1 AM CT Saturday morning until 1 PM CT Sat:
As of right now, tomorrow late afternoon into evening looks to be okay, with only a few scattered leftover showers and a possible thunderstorm. This looks to be very widespread and nothing severe. Here is a snapshot of simulated radar at 6 PM CT Sat:
Highs tomorrow look to stay in the 70’s across the state as we should be looking at winds from the NE for most of the day:
A look at rainfall guidance over the next 36 hours. Overall we think that the area of heaviest rains that are circled in black could be shifted a county or two to the SW, but we think this model provides a good general idea that the heaviest of rains will likely fall in the NW/N Central parts of the state. We also think this model could be slightly underplaying the potential for some scattered activity throughout the morning and early afternoon tomorrow in the S part of SD. This should not be the same coverage or amounts as further N, but we do think the possibility of rain in S SD is on the table. We also think that some of these totals in the black circled area could be higher if this storm cluster can organize faster than what models area saying:
