7-19-18 KS/MO/IA Evening Update: Continuing to track a couple areas of strong storms across the region this evening. I.

Good Thursday evening! This will be a quick update (as of 6:15pm CDT) regarding this evening/tonight’s severe weather. A couple discrete supercells have developed across central IA, both prompting tornado warnings over the last couple of hours. Both of these cells will lift east over the next several hours with a majority of the storm activity exiting IA by 12am CDT. The cluster of storms that was previously located in north-central KS a few hours ago has since picked up momentum as it dives southeast across far eastern KS/western MO. Southwest MO will be impacted by this approaching cluster of storms over the next couple of hours before the storms dip south out of the state by 11pm CDT tonight. Additional showers/storms have developed along the trail of this cluster but I don’t expect these storms to become severe and will likely weaken as it continues in the path of the cold pool that is draped across the area.

A tornado watch is in effect for portions of central/eastern IA through 10pm CDT. This watch joins the Severe Thunderstorm Watches in effect until 9pm CDT across portions of KS and MO.

The best chances for additional rains through tonight are within the encircled regions below:
