Today’s video:
Observed rainfall over the past 24 hours across the Region…locally heavy rains noted especially across NE and SE Minnesota and spots across south-central North Dakota:
Storm reports over the past 24 hours…was very active with a few tornadoes in northern MN and hail/wind reports scattered across the Dakotas:
A skinny line of storms looks to redevelop across far southern MN tonight, but the bigger risk likely comes late Friday night into Saturday morning for additional flash flooding and isolated strong storms across SE SD to southern MN once again…the reason this area is so active is the moisture continues to flow over top of the surging ridge of high pressure, allowing multiple storm clusters to build here in this “Ring of Fire” pattern. Rainfall rates up to or exceeding 1″/hr+ will be possible:
Total rainfall guidance from today through Saturday are below, where we highlighted an area specifically from SE South Dakota near Sioux Falls to areas like Worthington, near Minneapolis to Rochester and NE Iowa to see the risks for fairly widely scattered 1.0-3.0″ totals…a few areas may even exceed 3.0″+ where the training thunderstorms lingering the longest especially across SE MN. Areas further north and west across the Region enter a much drier pattern ahead:
