Today’s Video:
Good Wednesday Morning! A band of rain associated with an approaching low pressure system is working through Central SD and portions of Southern North Dakota this morning. This will continue to slowly push off to the east today.
As instability builds this afternoon, strong to severe storms could develop in South-Central and SE SD. All modes of severe weather cannot be ruled out, but with strong wind energy associated with the upper-level low pressure system, damaging wind gusts are the highest threat with a few tornadoes or pockets of large hail not being ruled out.
The highest strong to severe storm threat likely comes between 3PM and 9PM today and moderate-heavy rain north of the center of low pressure also likely develops along the border of North/South Dakota especially as we head into the late evening and overnight hours. Here’s a look at the total rainfall over the next 12 hours:
This low will continue to push off to the east overnight with rain persisting throughout the day tomorrow. Some likely do see breaks in the rain at times tomorrow, but the chance for rain likely continues for much of the southern 2/3 of Minnesota and even the Eastern Dakotas for much of the day tomorrow and into tomorrow night.
Rain finally starts to really move east and weaken the second half of Friday and a drier day is on tap Saturday. Another front likely moves in Sunday and into Monday with additional rain risks possible, though rain totals look to be much lighter than the current system.

Cooler weather under the upper-level low the next few days, but the Western Dakotas could warm back up as we head into Saturday:
