7-15-18 Central Plains Sunday Update: Isolated to scattered storms impact the region today through early next week…details here! I.

Good Sunday morning everyone! Radar remains most clear this morning as of 9am CDT with a couple notable exceptions being far northwestern NE where showers and embedded thunderstorms are influencing the region and the other being southern MO from the remains of yesterday evening’s into last night’s storms.

Simulated radar through 1am CDT Monday: Morning convection across southern MO will continue to trek east while slowly weakening through the remainder of the morning. Showers and embedded storms across far northwestern NE will continue to impact that region during the course of the day before gradually weakening later this afternoon and dissipating completely by 8pm CDT tonight. Isolated to widely scattered showers and storms will initiate across the region, especially KS and southern MO, between 1-3pm CDT and meander across the area late this afternoon into early evening. We will lose daytime heating as the sun sets so any storm activity in the region will diminish with most areas dry by 12am CDT.

Simulated radar from 1am CDT through 7pm CDT Monday: Leftover showers and storms are still possible overnight into Monday morning in southeast KS/southwest MO. Additional isolated to scattered storms pop Monday afternoon between 12-3pm CDT across portions of eastern MO/southern MO stretching into western KS before sagging southward out of the region during the evening hours. Storm activity will likely continue in western KS during the evening and overnight. An area to watch for some storms to turn strong Monday afternoon/evening is western NE where a mixture of instability and decent vertical wind shear could allow some storms to produce gusty winds and small hail.

Total precipitation through 8am CDT Monday: Shower and storm risks will remain rather isolated outside of the circled region. Many areas will not receive rain but locations that observe storm activity can receive up to 0.5″ of rain.

Inversions (increase in temperature with altitude) are in place across far eastern NE into western/central IA this morning allowing for the formation of fog in the region. As we build in some daytime heating this fog should quickly fade off with most of the area being fog-free by 10am CDT (when the Dense Fog Advisories cancel).

Here’s a look at temperatures over the next four days: Temperatures exceeding 90ºF will be likely across a majority of KS into western MO today. Northern NE/IA are likely the only areas through the next four days to escape most of the heat.

Low temperatures over the next four days: Warm overnight lows (low to mid 70s) will be common across KS and MO during this period.

Dew points over the next four days: The vast majority of the region will remain humid through the weekend with the far northern areas of IA catching drier air Monday behind the frontal boundary.
