Good Sunday afternoon!
A quick check on radar as of 4:05 PM CT shows that we are looking at Barry starting to reach into the extreme SE parts of Missouri, with a broken line of showers and storms in the North/Central portions of the state:
Our focus in the short term will be Barry. This now tropical depression will continue to work its way N with the center of the low pressure expected to cross into Missouri sometime overnight Monday into Tuesday. Rains will continue for most of the next 36 hours with the rain coming from the SSE and working its way further North into the middle portions of the state as we work into Monday. Here is a radar loop from 7 AM CT Mon until 7 PM CT Mon. We do believe the heaviest and most widespread rains for the SE part of the state will be in the late AM/early PM timeframe on Mon:
A look at rainfall guidance through 7 PM Monday. As mentioned in the Barry post sent yesterday, the further S and E you go in Missouri, the more rain you will see. Any precip totals in the NW portions of the state will likely be from the line currently there as shown on radar, and from extending bands of Barry that should not accumulate to a lot and would be pretty hit and miss. Keep in mind these totals are out through Monday evening, so we will likely be adding to these totals as well on Tuesday. We do agree with this model’s placement of totals and the amounts, although these may be slightly underdone as models can sometimes underestimate the amount of rain in tropical systems:
Barry will also have a huge influence on our high temperatures tomorrow across the state as we could be seeing temps in the low 90’s in the NW parts of MO with highs struggling to get out of the mid and upper 70’s in the SE parts of MO where we will be feeling the impacts of Barry the most:
One final note on Barry is max wind gusts for your Monday. This could be an issue in the areas where we are seeing the heaviest of rains in the state as saturated soils could make it easier for wind gusts to blow down trees or other objects. Max wind gusts look to be around 40 mph for SE Missouri with gusts lower the further NW you go:
