7-14-18 Central Plains Saturday Update: Scattered, heavy storms increase today for portions of the area with additional rain opportunities to end the weekend. I.

Good Saturday morning! Yesterday afternoon through early this morning brought some very beneficial rains to portions of the area. Many across southern IA and far northern MO were able to cash in on these rains with a few local spots picking up over 2.5″+ of rain. Additional heavy rains fell in central KS where upwards of 4″ of rain were observed.

Current radar as of 9:30am CDT: Most areas of convection have since died off since last night into early this morning. A few areas still picking up isolated rains include portions of eastern IA, far western MO, and southeastern KS.

Simulated radar through 10am CDT Sunday: Re-development of storms is expected along and south of the frontal boundary between 12-3pm CDT across far southeastern IA, far eastern KS, and central/northern MO. Storms will be more isolated in nature across southern MO this afternoon and evening. Upper-air flow will guide these scattered storms ENE through the course of the evening while gradually weakening late this evening into tonight across MO. By 7am CDT Sunday morning a few isolated showers and storms may still be hanging around the area. Another piece of upper-level energy will enter into northwest NE sparking storms Sunday morning. The original boundary by Sunday afternoon will be draped across the southern portions of KS and MO where scattered showers and storms are expected to develop once more before fading late evening as daytime heating is lost.

Total rainfall through 7am CDT Sunday: Showers and storms will remain more isolated in coverage outside of the circled region with 0.1 to as high as 0.5″ of rain possible in eastern KS, southern MO, and east-central IA. Additional rainfall is likely as mentioned above for the southern portions of the region later Sunday.

Here’s a look at high temperatures over the next four days: Temperatures exceeding 90ºF will be likely across a majority of Missouri into southeastern KS today with more 90ºF readings possible tomorrow across the southern portions of the area. Northern NE/IA are likely the only areas through the next four days to escape most of the heat.

Heat Advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service for portions of eastern/southeastern MO. Dense Fog Advisories remain in place through 10am CDT in north-central KS into central NE. This fog will burn off over the next couple of hours.

NAM 3km projected maximum heat index for today: Heat indices of 100-110ºF will be common across the state of MO. A few heat index readings may approach 110ºF in the southeastern counties.

Low temperatures over the next four days: Warm overnight lows (low to mid 70s) will be common across KS and MO during this period.

Dew points over the next four days: The vast majority of the region will be humid through the weekend with northern/northeast areas catching drier air Monday behind the frontal boundary.
