7-13-18 Central Plains Afternoon Update: Tracking scattered, heavy storms across portions of the area this evening with additional storms likely tomorrow. I.

Good Friday afternoon everyone! Scattered showers and storms have fired as of 4pm CDT along a frontal boundary draped across the region from northeast IA southwest to central KS. Portions of far northern MO and southeastern IA are cashing in on some much needed rain with pop-up storms firing in the warm sector of this boundary.

Scattered showers and storms are likely across IA into southeast NE, far northern MO, and northern/central KS through 7pm CDT before gradually weakening in intensity during the evening hours. At this time eastern IA has the best chance for some strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening as the orientation of the storms in the state could become more linear with damaging wind gusts as the main concern. The Storm Prediction Center has put out a slight risk for strong to severe storms in these areas:

By midnight, a majority of the convection will stay across central/eastern KS with isolated storm chances continuing across far southeastern NE, far southern IA, and northern MO through the nighttime hours. Flash Flood Watches have been issued for portions of southeastern NE into central IA until Saturday morning as scattered, heavy storms impact the region.

During the morning hours Saturday isolated showers and storms will still be present across eastern KS with scattered, heavy storm activity increasing again after the noon hour across MO and very far southern IA with isolated storm risks still for eastern KS. By late Saturday evening storm activity will begin to dwindle across the region with the remaining storm chances late Saturday night into early Sunday existing across central/eastern MO.
