Good Saturday afternoon! This will be a quick update regarding today’s severe weather threat. The atmosphere is prime for storms to develop within the next hour or two across eastern NE and western IA before pushing eastward through the evening hours into IA/northern MO with additional development possible in eastern KS this evening. An upper level trough lifting out of WY/CO will initiate another cluster of storms by mid afternoon that tracks east across NE and northern KS through the evening and overnight hours. By early morning, this cluster will possibly be impacting western IA/MO in a probable weakened state. Remnants of today and tonight’s active weather will impact IA and MO tomorrow morning. Some of these storms across eastern NE into IA through this evening have the potential to be severe, with damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The possible overnight MCS (Mesoscale Convective System or large cluster of storms) could bring a damaging wind threat and a brief spin-up or two across NE and northern KS.
