Watching a severe storm working from eastern Nebraska into western Iowa this morning. This will continue to work east and may try to dive a bit further south as it progresses farther east in Iowa. We also have a few locally heavy storms in eastern Missouri. Radar as of 9:20 AM CDT shown below:
Severe thunderstorm watch for portions of western and southern Iowa as this wave of storms works east.
Severe storm outlook for today shows the strong storm chances working across western and southern Iowa into northeast Missouri through the day.
Here is the forecast radar as we go throughout the day. In the video I break down the timing in more detail for the coming hours. A few isolated storms possible in western areas this evening, but tonight much of the region is dry. Storms in Minnesota/Wisconsin may come close to clipping far northeast Iowa, but indications are this should stay just northeast of there.
Total rainfall today: Remember this is just a model and will be incorrect in spots. That said, it’s probably the best solution we have for today’s forecast.
The best threat for scattered storms in the area will come in Saturday afternoon through early Sunday as a cold front sinks southeast into the area. Locally heavy storms favoring central/eastern Nebraska along with northern and western Iowa
An upper level ridge continues to dominate our pattern as it pushes eastward, bringing along with it the heat. Widespread 90s to low 100s can be expected across a majority of KS and MO through Saturday. Heat indices are likely to surpass 100ºF (and possibly 105ºF) through Friday before a cold front approaches from the northwest, moderating temperatures across the northwest portions of the area.
Widespread Heat Advisories/Excessive Heat Warnings have been issued across the Central Plains because of the significant heat. Please take precautions with this heat and stay hydrated and cool!

Low temperatures over the next four days: Overnight lows will be elevated through the period…especially Friday and Saturday morning.
Dew points over the next four days: Dew points well over 70ºF are likely across eastern NE/KS into IA and MO.
