Overall a quieter day is expected today when compared to yesterday. Heavy rains occurred across portions of southeast KS into central/southern MO where some areas picked up over 2″ of rain (below). Currently, we have hit and miss showers and storms across southeastern MO that will push out of the area while a weakening disturbance is pushing south out of SD into northwestern IA. Severe storm chances today remain low across the area with only a marginal risk across eastern MO and northwestern NE. Hail and gusty winds are possible with storms that develop in these areas.
Data is increasing storm chances after midnight tonight with the possibility of a decent cluster of storms from 3-8am CDT Thursday morning over portions of central/eastern Missouri, and possibly affecting parts of southwest Iowa. Forecast radar time-stamps shown below.
Rainfall over the next 36 hours: Watching scattered storm chances in northern Kansas/southern Nebraska tonight, with the highest chances over central Missouri and possibly portions of southwest Iowa. Some spots mostly in central/eastern MO can pick up 0.5″ to 1.5″ given latest trends.
Heat has surged northward into the area as a building dome of high pressure positions itself over the eastern portions of our area. Widespread 90s to low 100s can be expected across a majority of KS and MO today through Saturday. Heat indices are likely to surpass 100ºF through through Friday before a cold front approaches from the northwest, moderating temperatures across northwest portions of the region.
