Good Tuesday afternoon!

Here is a look at observed rainfall over the past 24 hours. Most of the state received less than a tenth inch of rain with higher amounts found in the NE and SW portions of the state:

The theme for the rest of tonight and tomorrow is going to be scattered storms, hit and miss in nature. There will not be any state-wide rainfall events, but rather scattered showers and storms. Here is a simulated radar loop from 7 PM tonight to 12 AM Wednesday. The main focus for these scattered showers late tonight are going to be focused in the SW sections of the state :

The SPC has placed cities like Rapid City and Sturgis in a slight risk for tonight. The main concerns with these storms are going to be hail, wind gusts, and heavy rains where these cells set up:

These showers and storms will work their way across the state overnight and exit the eastern part of the state tomorrow morning. Here is simulated radar loop for 7 AM Wed through 12 PM Wed. Storms will lose the majority of their severity as we go into the overnight, however a strong thunderstorm cannot be totally ruled out going into tomorrow AM:

Rainfall guidance through Wednesday evening at 8 PM. The heaviest amounts of rain should fall in the SW part of the state as this is where we are expecting the strongest storms tonight and into the overnight hours. Other key takeaway from this image is the scattered nature of the storms. While the exact numbers shown should not be taken for face value, the general trend of area wide scattered storms and heavier rains in SW SD is important to note.
