Good Monday morning everyone! We currently have an expansive area of showers and embedded thunderstorms lifting north across southern SD as of 9am CDT associated with a low pressure system situated over southern NE. Further northeast, showers and thunderstorms have fired across portions of MN/far southeast SD and will push northward through the morning hours.

Showers and storms will remain scattered through the day today across MN with a majority of the rains being confined to south central SD this evening. There will be an uptake in shower and storm coverage across eastern ND, northeast SD, and northwest MN after 5pm CDT this evening into the early overnight hours. Wrap-around showers and storms associated with the upper level low will continue to spin across southern MN and far eastern SD through the day Tuesday. Simulated radar from 1am CDT Tuesday through 7pm Tuesday:

The upper level low positioned across the southern portions of our area has the potential to dump anywhere from 0.5-2″ in some spots across southeast SD and southern MN through the next 48 hours. Storm clusters are possible across ND and the northern half of MN Friday and Saturday morning.

Here’s a look at temperatures over the next four days: Heat will lift northward as the week progresses as the region will be positioned just to the west of a building dome of high pressure. Some areas across SD may work in 90ºF readings as the weekend nears with max heat indices approaching 100ºF.
