6-25-18 Central Plains Forecast: Unsettled start to the week….major heat builds in mid to late week! N.

Good Monday morning everyone! We currently have an expansive area of showers and embedded thunderstorms across central NE as of 9am CDT associated with a low pressure system situated over southern NE. Further southeast, a decaying MCS is pushing east across eastern KS/western MO and will continue to slowly fade through the morning hours.

Severe storm chances today across Iowa, northern Missouri, and eastern Nebraska.  Threat for a few brief tornadoes to spin-up, along with damaging wind gusts. Also an enhanced concern for locally heavy rain/flash flooding.  


Total rainfall over the next 60 hours:

Heat will surge northward as the week progresses as the region will be positioned just to the west of a building dome of high pressure. Widespread 90s to low 100s can be expected across a majority of KS and MO Wednesday and Thursday. Heat indices greater than 100ºF should be expected across the majority of the area through at least Saturday, with heat shifting slightly further east Sunday.


Total rainfall over the next 7 days: A lot of this is what falls today through Tuesday night….however we see increasing storm chances next weekend.  

High temperatures over the next four days: 

Low temperatures over the next four days: Overnight lows will become elevated over the coming days, especially Thursday and Friday morning.

Dew points over the next four days: Southerly winds will help to pump in more moist air into the region, with dew points surpassing 70ºF for most Wednesday and Thursday.
