5-9-19 Northern Plains: Light rain event Saturday…..drier and warmer pattern builds in next week. N.

Today’s Video:

Observed precipitation over the past 24 hours is below, heaviest totals racked up across central Minnesota with 1.0-2.0″+:

Observed snowfall over the past 24 hours is below as well…with the highest concentration from St. Cloud to Duluth, MN that we mentioned in yesterday’s video of 3-6″+, some areas getting localized 6-12″ as well:

Here’s our preferred total precipitation guidance over the next week below:

  • North Dakota: Crosby to Devils Lake to Fargo seeing the potential for ~0.25-0.5″ (localized higher can’t be ruled out)
  • South Dakota: Aberdeen to Mitchell being the potential for ~0.25-0.75″, otherwise less than 0.5″ expected across the state
  • Minnesota: Marshall to Fergus Falls to St. Cloud, Minneapolis, Grand Rapids to Rochester having the potential of ~0.25-0.75” (localized higher possible in spots as well)

Here’s our week 1 percent of normal precipitation below, showing the much below normal precipitation potential across the whole area, especially further south and west:

We do see quite the warmer trend (although likely one that’s not permanent) in the 5-10 day timeframe that may offer a much more favorable forecast to get our seed into the ground and get rolling hard with planting:
