Good Wednesday morning everyone! An upper-level low will continue to spark showers and storms today and moisture from Alberto will impact far Eastern Minnesota. We can see this occurring already this morning especially throughout North Dakota and Minnesota:
Here’s a look at the simulated radar into tonight. Note, the best rain/storm risks will develop for Eastern North Dakota and Minnesota today:
This system will push off to the northeast and a few scattered storms will develop for NW North Dakota overnight tonight and into Thursday morning. However, the big story will be the potential for some strong storms late Thursday and into Thursday night for Northwest North Dakota. A few of these could be severe with large hail/strong wind gusts the biggest threat.
The better threat for severe weather will come on Friday ahead of a cold front that pushes through the area. Storms that develop could produce large hail and damaging winds with perhaps an isolated tornado Friday afternoon and into Friday night. Here’s a look at these storms on Friday:
The SPC has issued a slight risk for severe weather on Friday. No reason to disagree with the placement of the threat, though we would not be surprised to see this upgraded to an enhanced risk as we move closer to the event.
After this storm passes Saturday for Minnesota, most of the rest of the weekend will be fairly quiet with perhaps a few isolated storms in Western South Dakota on Saturday. Here’s a look at temperatures over the next 4 days:
