5-3-19 Round Rock Express: Potential severe weather tonight. MG.

Good Friday afternoon!

Here’s a look at our latest 7 day outlook:

A complicated forecast is in store for tonight as many of the short term models continue to struggle with the forecast.  Instability should increase throughout the afternoon as clouds begin to clear around the Round Rock area.  Scattered storms should begin to develop early this afternoon from around 1:00 CDT to 3:00 CDT.  These storms will become more organized and linear as we progress into the evening hours.  The exact evolution of this storm feature still remains unclear but storm activity could remain in the Round Rock area into the early morning hours of Saturday.  These storms have the potential to be severe in nature with high winds and hail being the main threats although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.  Calm and more pleasant weather will begin to enter the area this weekend as the system exits.  Next week will bring another active period for Round Rock with several potential storm chances.

Here is a look at simulated radar reflectivity through 5:00 CDT Saturday morning.

Here is a look at total estimated rainfall through 5:00 CDT Saturday morning.  Note that these amounts can shift depending on exact storm location.

The Storm Prediction Center currently has Round Rock under a marginal risk for severe weather.
