5-29-19 Indiana: Targeting risk for severe storms today + additional storms through Thursday….details here. N.

Today’s Video:

Scattered rain and storms will be the story throughout the morning, with the heavier storms tending to be south of I-70, where more instability is present.  The activity will continue to push southward into southern Indiana early afternoon, with most areas catching a break this afternoon, allowing for isolated to widely scattered additional development late this afternoon and evening.  The risk is present for pockets of damaging wind and large hail with today’s storms.  Forecast radar from 8am to 7pmET shown below:

Another wave will arrive from the southwest mid to late evening, bringing back more widespread storm risks with a continued risk of some severe storms (hail/wind) into the overnight hours.  Thursday morning will be wet.  Severe threat is low tomorrow, but can’t rule out isolated strong winds/hail in southeastern parts of the state.  Most of the widespread rain will move out around 1pm Thursday, with isolated to widely scattered risks beyond that.

Total rain through Thursday:  An average of several short-range models shows a widespread, soaking rainfall through Thursday.  Central portions of the area look to get the heaviest rain.  Isolated 2″+ amounts are on the table, with many not far from 1″.

Friday can start with a few showers, with the risks ending from north to south through the day.  Overall not a bad day.  Saturday, expect scattered storms to return with strong storms being a possibility.  Trends have been to speed the weekend front up….this is good news is having a drier/nice Sunday.  There will be a couple really nice days early next week with dry/cooler air invading.  More warmth/moisture will return mid-late next week getting us back into a more active set-up.
