5-28-19 Illinois: Recapping Monday’s severe weather + additional storms/heavy rain through mid-week. N.

Video:

Storm reports yesterday: 60 tornado reports across the country.  I count 6 tornado reports in Illinois.  It was a very busy day.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those dealing with damage left behind from these storms.

Rainfall over the past 72 hours:

A boundary will spark a narrow corridor of scattered storms this afternoon across north-central Illinois.  The main focus is on storms working in this evening across northwest Illinois mainly after 9pmCT producing the risk of widespread damaging wind from Quincy to Moline, isolated strong tornadoes, and large hail.  This complex of storms continues to dive east and southeast through the overnight.

Another 1-2″ of rain coming through Wednesday AM for west central and northern Illinois, aggravating the ongoing flooding.

Today’s severe threat:

We’ll catch a break to re-fuel the atmosphere for more scattered storms late Wednesday.  Again, we’ll have an environment favorable for any storms to be strong to severe.  We’ll see a wave move in from the southwest Thursday morning expected to bring more widespread rain, but not as much of a severe threat with this.  Total rain through Thursday: Heaviest along/north of I-70.

Drier and cooler air will work in late Thursday-Friday night, leading to a less active period of weather.  Another front will work in Saturday bringing our next threat for storms, which could be strong.
