5-24-19 Illinois: Elevated flash flood threat across northwestern areas next 24 hours….latest here. N.

Video:

Here is the excessive rainfall outlook over the next couple of days (helps illustrate where the best storm risks are):

Today:

Saturday:

The same boundary that moved south yesterday is in the process of lifting north this morning.  The north will continue to deal with numerous heavy storms this morning.  This afternoon, additional isolated to widely scattered activity will continue to develop, but not as numerous as early this morning. Heavy storms will pick back up this evening and overnight across the northwest parts of the state.  Some spots northwest can get 2-4″+ of rain tonight.

Flash flood watch for the counties in green tonight:

All modes of severe storms are possible in northern Illinois later this afternoon through tonight.

Storm risks Saturday will drift south through the day.  Not overly widespread though, but widely scattered storms are expected.

As discussed in the video, there will be potential for a round of storms Saturday night into Sunday, with additional scattered storms especially through mid-afternoon Sunday.  The far northern and southern areas Sunday will remain drier.  We’ll catch a break Sunday evening before more scattered chances Monday.  Total rain potential through Memorial Day is highest across the northern half of the state. Totals NW are likely underdone, unfortunately.
