5-23-18 Central Plains Forecast: Hit and miss storms through late week….heat continues to build through the weekend! N.

Video (5:38):

Check out the accumulated rainfall over the past 12 hours: Portions of north-central Iowa got hit with heavy rains once again, an area that certainly doesn’t need any more rain.  I feel your frustration!

Forecast radar from 8 this morning to 7am Thursday:

Here is a look at the total rainfall from 8 this morning to midnight tonight:

Heading into Thursday, hit and miss storms mainly with daytime heat, then perhaps a better focus for scattered storms tomorrow night from far northern Kansas to central/east Nebraska and western Iowa.  There will be plenty of instability in place with an approaching front enhancing uplift for storms to fire.  I think the slight risk may get expanded into the circled area shown below.  Best storm timing in this area will be 7pm-3am Thursday evening into Friday morning.

Total precipitation through Memorial Day: This shows the hit and miss nature of the activity.  I do think the totals may be underdone in areas that get under storms today-Friday, where local 1″+ totals are possible.  Slight uptick in those storm chances Thursday and Friday, then storm chances look lower for the weekend.

High temperatures over the next 4 day…continuing to go from warm to hot late week into the weekend:
