5-18-18 Missouri/Iowa: Targeting strong storm potential into the weekend…latest details here! K.

Todays video:

Observed rainfall totals over the past 24 hours:

Fairly quiet pattern overall today…strong storm potential picks up Saturday night into Sunday mainly across northwestern Missouri and southern/western Iowa…main risks being damaging winds, large hail, heavy downpours and isolated tornadoes:

We did mention in the video today the potential for some isolated strong storms on Sunday afternoon/evening across the southeastern half of Missouri given the amounts of energy and moisture available…something to keep an eye on:

Rainfall totals guidance through the weekend from the latest European model…we noted this in the video as well, this model is not perfect, but favoring the northern half of Iowa for ~0.5-1.5″, the northern 1/4 of Missouri for 0.1-0.5″ (locally 0.75″ in strong storms)…can’t rule out for some isolated storms in SW Missouri for ~0.1-0.5″ but favor an overall drier solution:
