4-5-18 Central Plains Forecast: Accumulating snow expected in Nebraska Friday….lower confidence in KS/MO….very cold air on the way! N.

Video:

Winter weather advisories across Nebraska tonight through Friday.  Several inches of snow expected.  Winter storm watch for Perry county, MO.  If current trends continue that watch will need dropped.

Forecast radar from midnight tonight to 6am CDT Saturday.  Snow spreads across Nebraska after midnight tonight, then continues for much of the day Friday.  This disturbance will continue to work south with light rain transitioning to snow across Kansas and Missouri Friday afternoon through Friday night.  A period of some sleet will be possible as well.  Temperatures here continue to drop with slick spots possible especially by the evening.  Temperatures in Nebraska will definitely be cold enough to create snow-covered roads and travel issues tomorrow.

I think the hi-res NAM has a good handle on snow accumulations.  It’s a general 3-6″ snow band across central and northwest Nebraska, localized higher amounts possible.

Forecast precipitation amounts have backed off across Kansas and Missouri for Friday.

Watching a warm front moving in Saturday night through Sunday.  This will bring the threat for wintry weather Iowa and portions of Nebraska.  Freezing rain could be an issue in central Nebraska early Sunday.  Forecast radar from 7pm Saturday to 7am CDT Monday.

Snow accumulations are looking likely across Iowa Sunday.
