Good Wednesday morning!
A few scattered snow showers are occurring right now in South Dakota. These are not a huge deal and will likely weaken throughout the day, but don’t be surprised to see a few flakes fly especially in Western South Dakota.
A few scattered snow showers will likely develop in far Northern Minnesota today. Wouldn’t rule out a coating in a heavier snow shower this afternoon into the overnight hours.
Two waves of energy will work through the area overnight tonight and into tomorrow. Snow likely develops in Western South Dakota along the southern piece of energy overnight tonight. Overall, these will be fairly light, but some accumulation especially on the western border of South Dakota cannot be ruled out. The more potent piece of energy begins to produce snow overnight tonight, but really picks up in North Dakota tomorrow morning. It will move south and east throughout the morning and enter Minnesota mid-day. This likely produces a narrow band of accumulating snow – possibly 1-2″ with isolated higher amounts. Nailing down the exact track of this is difficult given how narrow it is, but here’s the area to watch for snow tomorrow. The band likely occurs somewhere within this circle.
Snow showers and squalls develop late this afternoon into the overnight hours tonight. These could produce some light snow accumulations – a coating to a half inch with isolated higher in areas that see heavier bursts. Winds could be strong with these snow showers and produce visibility issues at times.
Note, heavier accumulating snow will develop overnight Thursday into Friday morning for portions of Southern South Dakota. Widespread 3-6″ is possible in Southwest South Dakota, with lighter amounts into Central South Dakota.
Low temperatures plummet to single digits and below zero in northern areas on Friday morning:
Another storm system likely develops late this weekend and brings additional accumulating snow into Monday evening.
