4-3-20 Ankeny PM: Quick Update on Precip today. MG.

Good Afternoon!  We just wanted to provide you a look at some of the latest data regarding the precipitation as it rolls through the state today.  Overall, not much has changed in our thinking.

Here is a look at the current hazards across the area.  There is still a winter weather advisory across portions of IA.  This is mainly for potential impacts this morning.  As air and pavement temperatures warm, impacts should be less/ minimal this afternoon.

Here is a look at the current radar / temps as of 12:26 PM.  Temperatures to the east have remained rather warm with cooler temperatures and more mixed precipitation to the west consisting of freeing rain, sleet, and snow.

Here is a a 6 panel of simulated radar guidance through the evening hours.  This area of precipitation will continue to work east this ending and looks to largely be to the east of IA by midnight.  Pavement impacts are going to remain limited today due to the time of year, the time of day this precipitation is moving through (during the day time allowing for warmer pavement temperatures), breezy conditions (winds out of the NW around 10-25 MPH) and a slight warm up behind the precipitation.  Also notice the lack of wintry precip type after 9 PM.

Here is a look at temperatures through the evening hours.  Notice the slight warmup through about 7 PM today.  This will also help aid limiting pavement impacts.

Cold air sets up into tomorrow morning.  Here is a look at the wind chills around 7 AM tomorrow morning.

Here is a look at the latest data regarding additional precip.  Precip should remain generally on the lighter side (less than 0.5″).  Thoughts remain the same from the morning update.
