4-25-19 Illinois: Heavy rain threat south of I-70 today….watching a tricky system Saturday & wet pattern next week. N.

Illinois Video:

Dense fog advisories until 10am CDT:

The bulk of the rains today will be focused from an Alton to Ramsey to Charleston and Paris line and points south.  Tonight, a passing front will bring a band of showers to the northern half of the state.  Total rains through tonight:

Watching a system this weekend bringing wet snow risks to the far northern tip of the state Saturday PM and night.  Most areas will just see rain, with lower rain coverage and amounts across the southern half of the state.

Rockford and Waukegan especially really need to keep an eye on Saturday’s forecast.  Any small shifts will make the difference between increasing heavy, wet snow vs. just rain.  If and when the snow does fall, it would be above freezing but this system would be able to put down some accumulations.  SREF ensembles picking up on the probabilities for at least 1″ of snow…personally feel this is too far south but shows the potential:
