4-2-19 New Orleans Baby Cakes Forecast: Quiet weather today/tomorrow. Storm activity increases late this week into the weekend. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Tuesday morning everyone! Quiet weather will persist the next two days as dry air lingers in the area following the passage of a front. Temperatures will be below normal but will warm throughout the week. As the week goes on rain and storm changes will really ramp up and the active pattern likely develops Thursday and continues into early next week. The concern on Thursday will be the risk for severe weather potential. A marginal risk for severe weather is in effect, though we’d expect this to be upgraded to a slight risk with an enhanced risk north of the New Orleans area.

Thursday likely begins with about a 40% coverage of scattered rain/storms but the main chance will likely be in the afternoon and evening as instability builds and upper-level energy pushes east into the area. There will probably be a greater coverage of storms in the afternoon with severe weather possible. Into Friday a boundary lingers in the area leading to rain/storm threats especially the first half of the day. Saturday we’ll need to watch carefully. As of now we think the storm activity holds off till Sunday (which could be very heavy and widespread), but if the system speeds up we’ll need to carefully watch Saturday night.

Here’s a look at the simulated radar between Thursday morning and Saturday evening:

Here is today’s 7-day outlook. Note, storm chances are likely especially Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday with a potential break in the action on Saturday.

Generally the model consensus agrees with very heavy precipitation totals over the next 7 days.

Here’s a look at our latest week 2 temperature/precipitation forecast. We generally expect the warmer and wetter pattern to persist into mid-April:
