Today’s Video:
Good Thursday morning everyone!
Overall, expect a quiet day today with sunshine throughout much of the area and temperatures getting up into the 50s for much of the areas not covered in snow. A few lingering areas of mist/drizzle in North Dakota could lead temperatures to stay in the 40s.
Temperatures drop down into the teens and twenties for areas with snow cover and pockets of dense fog could develop with slick spots not out of the question with below freezing temperatures.
We’re still watching a rain-maker that likely works into the area late tomorrow and into Saturday:
Showers start working into SE South Dakota as early as mid-afternoon tomorrow with scattered showers throughout much of the state late Friday. Heaviest rain looks to be centered in Southern South Dakota with a few scattered showers entering southern Minnesota as early as Friday evening. Rain showers continue for Eastern/Southern South Dakota and Southern Minnesota into Saturday. However, these should diminish as we get into the afternoon on Saturday. Overall, we’re leaning towards the drier solutions for North Dakota that keep rain focused in South Dakota. Generally rain accumulations of less than a half inch (heaviest in Southwest/South Central South Dakota) with many areas receiving less than a quarter inch.
We are watching perhaps a heavier rainmaker early next week (late Monday – Wednesday) that could bring a cold rain to the area. This likely drops high temperatures back down early next week before a big warm up is in the cards late next week into the weekend.
Here’s a look at the high and low temperatures from the European model over the next several days:
Here’s a look at cloud cover over the next few days… clear skies today will give way to mostly cloudy skies tomorrow as the system approaches from the south.
Here’s a look at wind gusts and directions over the next few days… gust winds possible in the Western Dakotas tomorrow as the rain-maker moves in:
