Today’s Video:
Good Monday morning!
We have a couple lingering snow showers in Eastern Minnesota this morning. We expect these to work off to the east and begin to diminish throughout the day, but still cannot rule out some flurries or light snow showers into the evening hours.
Our next system will begin to develop late in the day on Tuesday and bring a mix of rain and snow to portions of North Dakota. Temperatures look to be above freezing initially, but could drop near freezing overnight on Tuesday so grassy accumulation of 1-3″ is on the table with slick spots especially on bridges and overpasses possible into Wednesday morning.
The band of accumulating snow will be fairly narrow and there’s a good bit of model disagreement on where it will occur. Overall, the NAM models are in the best agreement and have been doing to best with temperatures today, so we’ll lean towards it’s solution right now.
A second, heavier wave of snow will develop with this system for portions of South Dakota and Minnesota. Snow will really begin to pick up for Southeast South Dakota and Southern Minnesota on Wednesday morning. The main swath of snow will continue for South Dakota into the afternoon and early evening hours before exiting area. Minnesota likely sees snow continue until the late evening hours.
Models are consistent with the idea of targeting southern Minnesota for accumulating snow, but differ in amounts and orientation especially for South Dakota. However, 3 out of the 4 models do have a decent swath of 6-10″ of snow for Southern Minnesota. Confidence is greatest in that area.
We could see some strong wind gusts with this system as well. Low visibility is possible especially in Southern Minnesota while snow falls.
Overall, the week isn’t too busy, but we do want to watch out for a system that could bring some rain late week into the weekend.
