4-11-19 Louisiana Baby Cakes Update: Brief discussion of Saturday severe weather risks. B.

Good Thursday afternoon everyone! We wanted to produce a quick update discussing the potential for severe weather across the state of Louisiana throughout the day on Saturday. We do believe there could be a rather substantial severe weather outbreak for portions of the state Saturday. A combination of a favorable setup for rotation and some instability has the potential to produce tornadoes. Given lower instability, hail looks to be a minor threat, though some strong to severe wind gusts with storms are possible.

We anticipate the main line of storms to work through New Orleans overnight on Saturday which will limit the severe potential a bit, but a couple of strong or severe storms are possible with winds the main threat. A few tornadoes cannot be 100% ruled out but this looks to be a lower threat with the main risk area well to your north and west. Storm activity in Northern Louisiana looks to be in the afternoon and evening hours.

Here’s a look at total precipitation by the end of the event:

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on this potential severe weather threat the next few days. Have a great day.
