Good Friday afternoon. Wanted to give you a quick update on the forecast tonight. Latest forecast guidance shows light rain and snow working into southern portions of the state this evening across south-central Indiana such as Terre Haute to Bloomington, Columbus and southward. The air is very dry so some it will take time to reach the ground. The main concern will be a band of heavier rain that will work up along the Ohio river in southern Indiana from mid-evening through the pre-dawn hours Saturday. With dynamical cooling taking place, the northern edge of this shield will switch over to wet snow, particularly after midnight to 5am Saturday.
Here is our thinking on where the changeover from rain to wet snow takes place tonight. Areas Like Jasper, English, Corydon, New Albany. Note a period of moderate snow is possible which could coat grassy areas and rooftops. Warm pavement and marginal air temperatures will make it difficult to stick on pavement. However, definitely recommend patrolling the area overnight.
Temperatures in this area warm into the middle 40s this afternoon, then fall into the middle 30s as the mix/changeover from rain to wet snow occurs.
