3-9-18 IN/IL Forecast: Light rain/snow chance south this evening….mainly dry pattern ahead! N.

Video (6 min):

Good Friday morning!  Starting off clear and cold over much of the region…a few light flurries continue to linger across northeast Indiana.  As we head through the day, far northeast Indiana will hold on scattered flurries for much of the day.  The rest of the area will see increasing high clouds build in as a disturbance works in across south-central Illinois and southern Indiana this afternoon through tonight.  This will bring the chance for a few showers mixing with snow showers.  Best chances tonight will be for locations near the Ohio River.  I wouldn’t be shocked to see a slushy, grassy accumulation of snow in a narrow swath across extreme southern areas (Paoli/English down to New Albany) but we have low confidence on that even happening.  If it did, it would be from midnight to 5am.

Much of the region looks dry Saturday, with a decent amount of sunshine the further north/east you are.  As mentioned in the video, we’ll have to watch portions of Illinois and southern Indiana where precipitation chances could try to sneak into the weekend forecast.  There will be a chance of light rain and wet snow in western Illinois Saturday night into Sunday, with light snow accumulation possible especially near the Missouri border.  Southern Indiana may see a few light rain or snow showers Sunday.  It appears most of Indiana stays dry though.

Temperatures will remain cool through the weekend with mostly 40s for highs.  Areas southwest may work in some 50s Saturday afternoon.

Overall next week is quiet, but we’ll keep an eye on pesky snow shower chances mainly north and east Indiana as a reinforcing trough builds in for the first half of the week. As discussed in the video, a big warm-up is in sight by the end of next week.  Highs look to possibly reach the 60s a week from today.

Precipitation is lacking in most locations over the next 7-days, several locations see no measurable moisture!
