3-7-18 Illinois Forecast: Spotty snow showers possible tonight…mainly dry forecast ahead! N.

Video (7 min):

Good Wednesday morning!  Scattered flurries continue to diminish this morning as the upper-level energy moves east of the state:

Should be a dry day across the state outside of a stray flurry…the big story will the breezy and cold conditions out there.  A weak wave aloft will bring the risk for widely scattered snow showers after 5pm CT through the overnight, diminishing by daybreak Thursday.  A lot of spots see nothing at all…but some spots can get a dusting of snow along with the potential of slick spots on the roads.

Other-wise, we should see partly sunny skies build in Thursday through much of Friday.  Check out the temperatures over the next few days…colder tonight as lows dip well into the 20s with some upper teens north.  Highs in the 30s tomorrow before we see a bit of a rebound Friday.

A couple disturbances will bring the risk for precipitation mainly in southern Illinois from Friday night through Sunday.  Another disturbance showing up to our west Sunday may bring some light rain and snow if it tracks further east.  The video goes into more details regarding the weekend set-up and the model differences still present.

Latest data is actually quite dry over the next 10 days…showing less than a tenth inch of moisture over the northern half of the state.  Next week looks quiet.  There will be more chilly temperatures the first half of the week before a warm-up kicks in by late next week.
