Good Wednesday morning! A disturbance will bring a narrow band of light snow across west central Iowa this afternoon, with widely scattered snow showers across Iowa and northeast Missouri this afternoon through tonight. A few spots can get a coating of snow…overall not much accumulation. Otherwise…locations further west see lots of sunshine today. Thursday looks dry and mostly sunny with high pressure in control.
Winds will be much more bearable over the next few days! Still gusting 20-30mph today out of the northwest, then even lighter Thursday.
The upcoming weekend will bring a couple disturbances into the region…one tracking mainly to our south with rain, and another one that moves in Saturday night through Sunday. Widespread precipitation is not expected…and the amounts will generally be light. There will be the risk of some wet snow somewhere in eastern Nebraska through Iowa Saturday night/Sunday. Exact placement is still uncertain. It’s actually possible to see a pocket where several inches of wet snow can fall Sunday….models differ between central and western Iowa at this time.
Once we get past Sunday, the first half of next week looks very quiet. We start the week cooler than normal, but should gradually warm as the week progresses. Another system may show up late next week or near the following weekend….this is a system that has been well correlated with our organic forecasting methods.
Here is a look at precipitation through Sunday night….there could be a pocket where 0.25″ to 0.5″ of moisture falls in western Iowa into northern Missouri, and up to a half-inch of rain in southern Missouri.
