3-6-19 Northern Plains: Latest details on wave of snow tonight/tomorrow. High impact winter storm this weekend. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Wednesday morning everyone! There is a snow system that will be working across southern portions of the area late this evening into tomorrow. Winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings are in effect for parts of South Dakota:

Snow really begins to pick up after dinner-time today and into tonight in SW SD with scattered snow showers activity in SW SD throughout the day today. This will be very slow moving system which will allow for decent snow totals especially in SW portions of the state. Weak frontogenesis will also aid in snow totals across southern counties of SD:

Temperatures will not be too cold compared to what we have seen recently the next few days, but remain below freezing but into the 20s for some on Friday and Saturday:

These warmer temperatures are a result of a strong storm system that will be pushing into the area on Saturday. This system likely produces heavy snowfall and potentially blizzard conditions Saturday afternoon into Sunday as winds gust in southern portions of the area up to 45 MPH.

Given solid agreement among ensemble data and the location of two upper-level jet streaks, here is the area we favor for the highest snow threats, with blizzard potential highlighted in yellow:
