3-5-20 500 Festival Education Program: Mild and breezy today. Cold with gusty winds and scattered snow showers tomorrow. B.

Good morning everyone. Today’s education program still looks to be ok aside from the breezy winds this afternoon. Temperatures will be pleasant and surge into the mid-50s. We are still eyeing a potential line of showers late this evening but this looks to occur a few hours after the program ends.

Forecast Blurb:

Today will feature another chilly start to the morning with dry air and a weak breeze. Winds will be the main issue throughout the day with increasing gusts of 25-30 MPH by the late morning and early afternoon. Sustained winds of 10-15 MPH are likely. Temperatures should surge into the low-mid 50s prior to a front that will begin to work into the area in the evening hours. Along this front there could be some showers or sprinkles but the timing of this wave looks to be closer to ~6-7PM. Cannot 100% rule out an isolated lightning strike with this wave, but that threat is well after the program ends.

Simulated Radar at 5 and 7 PM:

Tomorrow’s weather will not be as pleasant. Winds will be very gusty throughout the day with frequent gusts of 35 – 40 MPH. There will also be a chance of light snow showers in the morning hours, but given warm temperatures today, marginal temperatures tomorrow morning and the gusty conditions we aren’t really anticipating issues to the pavement. Much of the snow will likely just blow around with some very light accumulations only on grassy surfaces and rooftops.

Forecast Blurb:

Following the passage of a cold front tonight, a wave of energy will swing around scattered snow showers in the pre-dawn and early morning hours tomorrow morning. These snow showers will be light and sporadic with the highest concentration likely just north of the area. With that being said, we certainly think there can be some light snow showers at times especially between 6-10 AM tomorrow morning. Temperatures will be right at or slightly above freezing and combined with very gusty winds, there likely won’t be wintry travel issues. With that being said, the wind is a concern and we’d anticipate wind advisories to be issued as much of the day sees sustained winds of 20 MPH with gusts of at least 40 MPH.
