3-5-18 La Porte/Fort Wayne District: Slushy snow expected tonight….additional snow showers Tuesday night/Wednesday. N.

Video (7 min):

Rain and snow showers will work their way into the area this evening through the overnight hours…snow showers look to work into the La Porte district 8 to 9pm CT, western sections of Fort Wayne district around 10pm ET, then pushing into Angola after 1am ET.

I think 1″ to 1.5″ of slushy snow is possible mainly from South Bend to Auburn (where temps will be coldest), and areas north of U.S. 30.  Otherwise, a dusting to 1″.

Here is an animation of temperatures from this afternoon through Tuesday afternoon.  Note the coldest temperatures tonight at/slightly below 32º north of U.S. 30, then temperatures fall at to slightly below freezing by daybreak Tuesday area-wide, coldest in western La Porte district.  Watch for some potential re-freezing of moisture.  Warmer air tomorrow will melt away the snow.

Rain and snow showers build back into the area Tuesday evening and night, and some of these snow squalls could be locally intense.  These will linger into the day on Wednesday.  I think tomorrow night will be the greater concern for slick spots due to colder air and locally heavy bursts.

A few overachieving snow squalls may drop 1-2″ of snowfall, other-wise a coating to 1″.

Wind will be another factor through mid-week…gusts over 30 mph Tuesday out of the west, then northwest on Wednesday:
