3-4-19 Northern Plains: Cold and windy with snow showers today. Watching snow chances mid-late week. B.

Today’s Video:

Wind Chill Advisories/Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for bitterly cold temperatures to start out the day and blowing/drifting snow risks throughout the day today:

Good Monday morning everyone! We have a few snow showers and flurries beginning to work into North Dakota and Minnesota. This is along an area of upper-level energy which will dive southeast throughout the day today. Light accumulations are possible, but with winds gusting 30-45 MPH at times, winter weather advisories have been issued mainly for blowing and drifting snow which could cause hazardous travel and low visibilities:

Some weak energy will also work in late Tuesday night and early Wednesday and lead to some additional light accumulations:

Beyond these waves, a clipper system will push in for Wednesday Night and Thursday. Overall, the GFS/Euro are similar in placement for this wave, but the European quickly weakens the system to the east leaving SE SD out of most of the snow. As of now, we favor the more robust GFS solution given an upper-level jet streak and recent performance. Here’s a look at a 4 panel of potential snow for Thursday:

After this system a very strong storm likely develops for this weekend. This system has the potential to be high impact given the strength and potential for additional snow:

Wind chills will still be very low tomorrow morning, but temperatures should get above 0 for the most part over the next 4 days:

Here’s a look at winds over the next 4 days:
