3-4-19 Indiana: Mainly dry and very cold next few days…eyeing a wintry wave late Thursday & a strong weekend system. N.

Indiana Video:

Good morning!  Overall, the next 3 days are mostly sunny and dry.  There will be a disturbance dropping into the state Tuesday.  We’ll have to watch for a few flurries or snow showers to be squeezed out, especially over the northern half of the state.  Data indicates a batch of flurries drops south through the morning (7am-noon Tuesday) over the northern half of the state.  A lot of dry air will work against this, but a couple spots could see just enough for a dusting.  Other-wise, we should work back in decent sun Tuesday afternoon.  Tuesday night we should see an increase in lake-effect snow showers across northeast Indiana, but again this isn’t going to be a huge deal, with dustings of snow possible in northern Indiana.

Total snowfall through Wednesday AM:

We’ll need to keep a close eye on a disturbance dropping in from the northwest Thursday into Friday morning.  A swath of snow is likely to work across portions of the state, but big questions remain regarding the quantity of moisture.  The European (and its ensembles) remain very weak with this wave, while the GFS (and its ensembles) are quite robust, and would suggest a sizable snow event for some areas.  The correct solution is probably somewhere in between.  This means there looks to be some impactful wintry weather in this time to watch out for.  GFS shown below:

A strong storm system looks to impact the region this weekend.  This one looks to be an all rain event, with data showing gusty winds coming back to the area as well.  It appears the showers would arrive Saturday afternoon, and exit Sunday morning.

Total precipitation over the next 7 days: Around 1″ for many areas possible.
