3-30-18 Northern Plains: Latest details on timing and intensity of snow today into tomorrow for North Dakota/Minnesota. B.

Today’s Video (5:45):

Good Friday morning!

Snow from last night’s system is exiting Minnesota this morning, as the next wave of snow starts to work in Northwest North Dakota.

Here’s a look at the simulated radar from the European model over the next 24 hours or so. It seems to have the best handle on the system right now. Snow really begins to pick up this afternoon and continues into the overnight hours. Snow should exit Minnesota by noon tomorrow.

Updated thoughts on snowfall potential through the first half of Saturday…seeing a healthy swath of snow from central North Dakota through north-central Minnesota:

Latest look at temperatures through Easter weekend into early next week…a totally different ballgame from South Dakota/southern half of Minnesota from points north. The cold temperatures throughout the day today and tonight for areas seeing snow will allow for a high-ratio, fluffy snow event which will allow snow to accumulate quickly.

Winds will also be quite gusty on Saturday morning which will cause blowing snow and very bitter wind chill readings. Visibility issues are also possible tonight in the heaviest snow bands.

Light snow is possible for portions of Southwest South Dakota late Saturday into Saturday night. Cannot rule out some light accumulations with this.

We’re watching another system early next week, but there is a still a lot of model variability so confidence is low on a solution at this point.

7-day precipitation guidance from the GFS model, which is in close agreement to the Euro, has the best swath of moisture swinging through North Dakota into Minnesota with a void in precipitation noted across central South Dakota because of a split upper-level flow north and south:
