Today’s Video (6:00):
Scattered snow showers and flurries could begin as early as this evening, increasing in coverage late tomorrow. The main wave looks to develop tomorrow evening. With this, we’re watching for an accumulating snow risk Thursday into Friday morning…there’s a lot of risk to this forecast and don’t think it’s widespread…but there is some energy moving through during this timeframe from northwest to southeast in the area circled that looks to produce some snow:
We think the best chance with this system is across North Dakota into the northern half of Minnesota poses the best risk for a narrow band of 1-3″…can’t rule out locally higher amounts. Note, portions of South Dakota, North Dakota and the northern half of Minnesota do see scattered snow showers and squalls that could put down a light coating an isolated 0.5″ in heavier snow showers Thursday morning into Thursday night.
Our next system will move into the area by mid-day Friday… this system has a better shot at putting down a more widespread swath of accumulating snow. Temperatures will likely be in the teens or twenties during the heaviest snow which will create high snow ratios and a better shot a heavy snow. We’ll breakdown more details on this chance over the next few days.
Overall snow accumulations could surpass 6-8″+ in some areas by Saturday evening.
Wind chills Saturday morning and Sunday Morning could be well below zero for much of the region:
