Good Wednesday morning! Illinois missed out on a late season winter storm targeting Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. We are still being impacted by the breezy and chilly conditions wrapping around the storm. We should see increasing sunshine throughout the day, then decent weather tomorrow into most of Friday with slightly warmer conditions. A disturbance late Thursday into Friday may bring a few showers to southwest Illinois.
Forecast radar from 6am tomorrow to 7am Friday shows the disturbance that may bring a few showers to southwest areas….this won’t be a huge deal. Otherwise, many areas continue to see sunshine and somewhat warmer air Thursday.
Temperatures will only warm into the 40s today, but warmer air Thursday and Friday will have several spots cracking 50.
The next big story will be the storm system for Friday night and Saturday. There is good model agreement given we are still a few days out. A potent wave of low pressure will ride along a sharp temperature gradient setting up to our southwest. It appears the northern edge of the precipitation may have enough cold air to produce a band of heavy, wet snow. Here is the European:
The GFS is almost a carbon copy:
Changes in the forecast are easily possible given we are a few days out. Sunday for now looks dry and a bit milder. It does appear a nice warming trend (relative to where we’ve been) is ahead for the first half of next week. Here is total precipitation with this weekend system:
