Good Friday morning! A very mild weekend ahead for much of the region! Many warm into the 50s and 60s, with some 70s across central and western Kansas for daytime highs Saturday and Sunday.
A potent system will bring lots of wind to the area Monday and Tuesday of next week! The Dakotas will see significant snow with blizzard conditions. It appears the majority of the snow may stay just north of our area…although the area from northwest Iowa/northern Nebraska will need monitored for potential snow depending on exact placement of the low pressure (more details in the video).
As we head through Sunday, a few showers will develop over central parts of the area with showers increasing as we go into Sunday night/Monday (mainly Iowa/Missouri). It will become windy on Monday as we see dry conditions in most areas, with the risk for some snow in far northern areas. As the system starts to drift south Tuesday, scattered snow showers will be likely across Nebraska and Iowa, then by Wednesday the weather should calm down with the wind gradually diminishing.
Wind will be a big story Monday and Tuesday. Strongest winds on Monday will be across Nebraska and western Iowa where 45-55mph gusts are possible out of the northwest. The entire region should see gusts 35-45mph on Tuesday out of the west/northwest.
Snowfall: Heavy snow to our north over the Dakotas…we will have to watch northwest Iowa, northern Nebraska for some accumulation potential.
Total precipitation through Tuesday: Dry in western Kansas, 0.1″ to 0.4″ in the eastern half of the area, and significant moisture over the northern Plains.
