South Dakota is the main target for winter weather over the next 12 hours….a winter storm warning in place here. Band of heavy snow expected along with icing in southern South Dakota.
Current radar as of 10am CDT, 9am MDT:
Forecast radar through 11pm this evening shows the freezing rain to snow transition across southern South Dakota through the day.
South-west central South Dakota will be the target for heaviest snows, a band of 8-12″ likely. Further east, totals will be lower.
Ice amounts up to a quarter-inch or so possible in areas across south central and southeast South Dakota. Do want to note the further east you are, temperatures are marginal so the ice amounts are likely overdone, and more confined to elevated objects.

Unfortunately, we keep a cooler than normal temperature pattern going through the first half of April. Remember though, the “normal” temperature keeps going up, so it doesn’t mean it will be as cold as it is now.
