3-14-19: Severe storm risk and high wind today…much colder/drier for the weekend. Details here. N.

Video:

Good morning!  Watch the video above for more down to the minute details on today’s weather, but here is a time-line of what to expect through the day.  Severe threat initially moves into southwest Indiana late morning and early afternoon by 11am-2pm ET areas like Evansville, Terre Haute to near Greencastle.  Many of us will have the greatest risk in that 2-5pm ET time-frame.  After 6pm, the threat essentially is east of the state.  The main risk for Indy comes from 2-4pm roughly.

Wind gusts of 45-55mph this afternoon, mainly in the 1-6pm time-frame.  Gusts still topping 40mph into pre-dawn Friday.

Based on greatest instability, moisture, and shear, here is our thinking of the area standing the greatest isolated tornado threat today:

The entire state has the threat of severe storms.  Overall hard to disagree with the SPC risk overall, but wouldn’t be shocked to see enhanced risk shifted a bit more into southwest Indiana.  Damaging winds and isolated tornadoes are the main threats, with a lesser threat of large hail.

Total precipitation: Definitely looking a bit heavier compared to yesterday:

Friday will be chilly and windy with the threat of a few light showers (mixing with snow north) throughout the day.  Best focus north of I-70.   A few flurries and squalls develop Friday night, mainly across northeast Indiana, where some locations see a dusting of snow.

Snow potential Friday night:
