Good Wednesday morning!  Another day of sunny skies expected, along with much warmer temperatures today!  We are looking at high fire danger across Kansas into Missouri over the next couple of days where a Red Flag Warning is in place (in pink).  A winter storm watch (in blue) has been issued for northwest Nebraska Thursday night through Friday evening for ice accumulations and several inches of snow.

Temperatures will be mild today with 50s and 60s for highs:

Southwest winds today with peak gusts 25-30 mph:

Precipitation builds into the region tomorrow night, then continues across the area through Friday night.  Concern for freezing rain across the northern and western portions of Nebraska, with some mixed precipitation possible in Iowa.  Northwest Nebraska will see the bulk of the snow with this system, from Valentine to Chadron where several inches may fall.  Missouri will see all rain.

Checking out total precipitation, a decent amount of moisture falls across Nebraska to Missouri, as well as southwest Iowa.  Portions of Nebraska see up to 1″ of liquid. Unfortunately, most of Kansas misses out..around a quarter inch or so in the northeast part of the state.  This has trended slightly north from yesterday’s thinking.

Freezing rain will be possible across northern parts of the area.  Temperatures near freezing in Iowa may limit impacts, but some spots especially in northern Nebraska could see a decent amount of freezing rain, certainly keep a close eye on the forecast!

Have a great day!
