3-13-18 Central Plains Forecast: Very nice next couple of days with a mid-week warm-up….watching a potent late week system. N.

Video:

Good Tuesday morning!  It will look absolutely gorgeous across the region today and Wednesday with plenty of sunshine!  Increasing cloud cover Thursday as we see a developing storm system move into the region.   Temperatures will be very mild for Wednesday, then we see a sharp temperature gradient set-up from south to north Thursday and Friday.  Southwest Kansas will work in 80s Thursday with low humidity.

Storm system looks to work in Thursday night then moving east on Friday with widespread precipitation across Nebraska to Missouri.  Rain looks to change over to heavy, wet snow over northern and northwest Nebraska Friday.  On Friday night into Saturday morning, portions of Iowa may work in a wintry mix.   Missouri should stay all rain.  Snow could be heavy enough that winter storm alerts may be issued for portions of northern/western Nebraska.

Decent precipitation amounts likely from central Nebraska to central Missouri, with a half-inch to 1″, pockets of 1-2″ in Nebraska.  Northeast Iowa looks to stay completely dry, as well as southwest Kansas.

Weeks 1 and 2 outlooks:  The cold air will be stubborn across the northern portions of the country through the rest of the month, and we favor below normal temperatures as we head into the week 2 time-frame across Iowa and Nebraska.  Most of Kansas will work in above normal warmth this week, but trend closer to normal for week 2.  The above normal temperatures focused across Texas and Oklahoma.
