3-11-18 Southern INDOT Nowcast Update: Rain changing to heavy, wet snow in southwest Indiana…transition shifts east through the evening. N.

5:30PM ET: Good afternoon!  We are watching a band of enhanced precipitation from Jasper to Fort Branch, Evansville and Mount Vernon.  Dynamic cooling is at work here as the temperature Evansville has dropped to 33º with heavy, wet snow falling.  The precipitation type is dependent upon the intensity of the precipitation.  Where the heavier moisture is falling, it is cooling the atmosphere enough to fall as snow.  Radar as of 5:15 PM ET:

We are closely watching this enhanced band of moderate to heavy precipitation currently stretching from near Evansville to Jasper.  Watch for snow rates of 1-2″ per hour at times under this band over the next few hours…heaviest around Evansville. Heavy enough to create slushy roads and slick travel.

Latest forecast radar shows the rain to snow transition shifting eastward through mid-evening for counties along the Ohio River.  Snow should move out of southeast counties near Louisville by 2am EDT.

Watching for localized 1-4″ of wet snow in the circled area below.  It does appear the Evansville area will have the best shot of getting the higher end amounts.
