Video (6 min):
Lots of sunshine ahead for the region today! Watch for the potential of patchy fog to develop late tonight, mainly in portions of Minnesota. A weak disturbance will spark an area of snow showers mainly over North Dakota Friday morning. This may mix with some spotty rain/freezing drizzle south, but dry air will greatly limit that potential. Forecast radar from 5am Friday to midnight tomorrow night:
Data indicates only minor snow possible in portions of North Dakota into southern portions of Manitoba/Saskatchewan (through Saturday evening):
Temperatures won’t be too bad over the next few days, with many spots likely going above freezing during each afternoon, a bit cooler in areas where deeper snow is on the ground.
Don’t expect much wind today. South breezes pick up Friday over the Dakotas, then breezy for the weekend.
All eyes are on a system set to impact the area from Sunday into the middle of next week. Rain and snow will build in across the region Sunday, then largely looking at the threat for snowfall Monday through Tuesday. A system like this has potential to become a big-time wind maker. This means we could be looking at a blizzard, but note that there is plenty of uncertainty given we are several days out. For example, the system looks to cut-off and linger across the area through Tuesday night. The placement of the low will be key for wind and snow potential. The video goes into more details on the set-up. Just know a very impactful winter storm is looking increasingly possible late weekend through the first half of next week.
Weeks 1 and 2 outlooks…certainly appears precipitation will be well above normal thanks to that system early next week:
